Super Serbs: Ana Ivanovic (l), Jelena Jankovic (r)

Serbian Jelena Jankovic, currently ranked #2 in the world, barely lost to Serena Williams in tonight’s US Open Women’s Singles Championship (4-6, 5-7). It was Jelena’s first Grand Slam final. Oh, how I wanted to see her win. Personally, I don’t care if Jelena lost. She established herself as one of my favorite tennis players to watch. Why?

• She’s obsessed with watching her replays on the stadium screen – that’s crazy!
• Crazy power-slides
• Smiles like woah
• Her countrywoman is Ana Ivanovic
• Straight up sprezzatura: so casual while making points happen
• Yellow outfit did the trick
• Verbally challenged the umpire multiple times, unlike Serena
• Ball girls fear her. You can tell by the looks in their eyes
• She’s 23

But Jelena, please focus more next time. That goes for Ivanovic too – no more early round losses. I want to see an Ivanovic/Jankovic battle royale.
