2010 update: Lady Gaga can do little wrong; she is a necessary star for the bland pop industry.
Boy, are Lady GaGa’s first two singles catchy. Take “Poker Face”, for example:

Sure, it sticks in your mind, but the lyrics mean nothing and you’re left with a vivid picture of dogs playing poker. I never bothered to learn abaout Lady GaGa’s history upon finding a remix of “Just Dance” last May, but it seems she had potential to be legitimate. Maybe she still does. In 2004 Gaga was one of twenty people in the world to have gained early admission to the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied music. However, she soon dropped out, and is currently focused on being famous.
Well, in that case, Lady Gaga shouldn’t be immune to some criticism:
Claim: Her vocal style is reminiscent of Freddie Mercury.
Response: No, it is more like an intoxicated Mariah Carey. This is a compliment
Claim: She was asked to write for Fergie, the Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, and New Kids on the Block.
Response: Cool, NKOTB rock.
Claim: Says Gaga: “Pop culture is art. It doesn’t make you cool to hate pop culture”
Claim: She has a #1 Billboard single, and a #2 single.
Response: Too bad the year is 2009 and not pre-1999. (Read: the quality of pop music is relatively low). Update: Lady Gaga exceeds any meaning a number can provide. It’s about 1) the performance and 2) extravagance.
Claim: Lady Gaga has gone on tour and I haven’t.
Response: Yes, she went on tour with New Kids on the Block, and opened for Pussycat Dolls in Europe. Update: she is on tour.
Claim: On her upcoming tour: “it’s going to be traveling museum show”
Response: Update: Yes it is.
Claim: Gaga was nominated for Best Dance Recording of 2009.
Response: Daft Punk won – and deserved the win. Still, the category means nothing – and their single was released in 2001. Lady Gaga will win 2010.
Claim: Her hair is naturally platinum blond.
Response: Nope.
However, Lady Gaga is featured on a rap song that isn’t so bad. Good for Lady Gaga (not that she needs any street cred), but probably better for Wale (pronounced Wall-A). He’s a good guy and can use some mass publicity. The part sampled from Steam’s 1969 #1 “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” sort of hurts the ensemble, in my opinion, but the chorus (in true Lady Gaga fashion) is upbeat and addictive.
