Let a mini-robot alone in a park and it will make it safely to a predetermined destination. What exactly are Tweenbots? Well, they are much more than a thesis project for a grad program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts…
Tweenbots are human-dependent robots that navigate the city with the help of pedestrians they encounter. Rolling at a constant speed, in a straight line, Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.
The robots may be slow moving and face innumerable public dangers, but somehow always make it safely to the destination on their flag. Either people are inherently good, or they just are overcome by a friendly expression on cardboard. Bonus points to the guy who steered the Tweenbot away from traffic.
The question remains: What would happen if the Tweenbot were replaced with a toddler (or better yet, a real tween)?
