90sparty

The stereotypical teenage houseparty of 1990’s film is perhaps the coolest place on the planet. Where else can you find poorly dressed kids drinking from cups and swaying to typical music of the era. Plus, odds are fair that you will spot Breckin Meyer (Clueless’s Travis, Mitt in The Craft). Basically all teen movies and TV shows of the mid-late 90’s have grand party scenes where someone is verbally harassed in front of their peers. What else does it take to live like rich high schoolers on the big screen?

  • Nice luxury cars outside, parked neatly
  • Colored beverages
  • Single black kid (alluded to in Not Another Teen Movie)
  • Handful of bros, less advanced than the bro of today
  • Plenty of stair shots, plus a couple of a bathroom with a sick kid or couple making out
  • Goofy white kid (ie. Breckin Meyer)
  • Swimming pool, usually empty, possibly has a jumper
  • 50/50 chance of unwanted guests
  • Little physical violence, but plenty of verbal and some pushing

Sadly, teen parties in movies aren’t what they used to be. The last good one was probably in 2004’s Mean Girls and even that lacked the charm of the Clueless age.
